Yesterday afternoon I heard a familiar chirp in the garden, so I immediately grabbed my camera and went outside to photograph the noisy visitor. It was one of the blackbird gang!
He called for Dad, clearly expecting a free and urgent food delivery service, but it soon became apparent that Dad was nowhere to be found. The now bird-teenager started hopping enthusiastically around the garden and prodding random things on the ground, probably expecting that eventually something would turn out to be edible.
He also checked out the area where I used to put grapes out for the parents (typical teenager, wanting snacks before dinner!), so I put some more out just in case nothing turned out to be a worm 😉

Update – May 26, 2026
To my absolute delight, he has now started visiting every day for his grape allowance. At this point, I suspect I may have unknowingly adopted a blackbird teenager. Whether he sees me as a reliable food source, a kindly landlord, or simply the keeper of the grape buffet remains unclear—but he seems quite determined to keep me employed.
